blue sunsets

sunsetisb1

I know that the color of the sunsets speaks volumes about pollution, but don’t know exactly what it is saying. I googled around, and, surprisingly, it looks like Hyderabad’s air is clean.

“In an exceptionally clear, unpolluted atmosphere, the colours of sunset are especially vivid. The Sun is bright yellow and the adjacent sky is shades of orange and yellow. As the Sun disappears below the horizon, the colours change gradually from orange to blue. Low-lying clouds continue to reflect the light of the Sun, even after it has vanished. Higher, thin cloud shows a tint of mauve, as the blue of the sky mingles with the red …” George Dissanaike writes in the New Scientist

You can verify the pre-sunset colors observed in Hyderabad here. The pictures from this post are of the sky without the sun.

dance floor at poison

dance floor at Poison

6 am photo hunts around a dried up lake ended with a late night in the city. Poison with its with giant bouncers and glass floors is something else. Where some of the drinks were really sucky, trance and food rocked. I am definitely a believer.

street stuff

it is official: i am moving to India. all sorts of mixed feelings send me berryphotohunting.

here is some pretty stuff off the streets of New York. graffiti is banned in New York, which is unfortunate. good thing nobody cares to keep it under control in the industrial parts of Williamsburg – i am gloating every time i walk the dog. i cannot wait for the academia to stop being so prude and start gloating as well.

not sure what's the name of this type of art, but this is not graffiti. you can see this piece at the intersection of Houston and Bowery.

this miserable thing appears on a fence at the cross of Bedford and N 7th in Williamsburg. a large pile of trash always accumulates in the corner right next to this piece.

large piece somewhere on Berry in Williamsburg

 i really like this ad

i really like this ad. it's all over town, but this particular one is somewhere in East Village

fiesta the besta

I have no idea why one would need to go to Philadelphia to eat some poisonously greasy food, and yet I know of people who do that. Weirdos.

modes of transportation

As every little baby knows, many people with Harvard MBAs and other fancy degrees have a deep understanding of the financial crisis; they will gladly share their conflicting opinions as saliva  bubbles up in the corners of their mouths – just ask. Sadly, I am not one of them. But I can read.  Apparently there was something about the airplanes at Davos. I surely can response to that – discover alternative modes of transportation!

Hanging around NYPL, which was conveniently closed

Proof that ghost taxis exist

There is nothing lovelier than to wait for a train late at night

I have also read some gossip on parties at Davos – apparently Goldman and several others got caught up in the state of general depression as well. What can I say, I am so sad! Some unverified sources quote a minimum entry fee to the forum to equal to $85,000 –  looks like somebody is saving this year.  I wonder why.
